No Christmas Tree Doesn't Make Me a Grinch

I begin this post with an apology for the extremely long delay since my last post.  Craziness hit the household over the last few months, and it has been extremely busy lately!!!  I mean "on the verge of breakdown" busy.

With that said, I must clarify that it was 95% good busy - selling like crazy & working like a fiend just trying to keep up - and I'll take that kind of busy all day long!  But I do believe that life is beginning to wind down to a moderate pace of "just right" very soon.

However, with all the craziness of the last few months, & the reality of retail life (beginning the Christmas season in September), we have opted not to put up a tree this year.  "WHAT???" you say.  Yep, that's right.  I gave myself permission to skip the tree this year, & I feel pretty darn good about it!!!

(I know you guys are thinking this right now...)  But wait.  I'm not a Grinch, I promise.  I'm just a tired lady who's too pooped to unearth the multitude of boxes out from under the stairwell.  And to top it off, I have found several legitimate excuses that justify my behavior:

1)  For the first time ever we aren't celebrating Christmas at our house.  We are blessed to have been invited to one of our daughter's to see the little ones wake on Christmas morning (yay!).  Therefore, no need to accomodate for the holiday gluttony.

2)  Two of our daughters won't make it into town this year (another first) so there is no need to accomodate family traditions just so their childhood memories can continue year after year.  (We mothers are somehow convinced that if we don't repeat the same traditions each year, our adult, levelheaded children will experience a mental breakdown & we will forever be to blame.)

Finally, 3)  We have a newlywed couple living in the basement of which their huge stockpile of wedding gifts are haphazardly packed in front of my Christmas boxes.  Just trying to get to the boxes would literally be putting my life in danger, and I find that excuse to be enough all on its own.

So there you have it.  No Christmas tree.  However, I never give up a reason to decorate.  Embellishing my home each season gives it a sense of renewal, and that's exactly what I plan to do.  I plan to use what nature's bounty provides me to enhance our holiday season.  Stay tuned...
